Fishing & Waterways
The Moyne River is one of the busiest fishing ports in Victoria, Fishermen unload their catch of fish, crayfish and abalone at the dockside, while anglers try their luck in the estuaries and Port Fairy Bay. While some fish such as barracouta are found all year round, best catches can be found in the bay during the winter and spring months. Bream and Perch can be found by the footbridge and rear of the Gardens Caravan Park. Flathead, whiting and bream are also found in the upper estuaries at Martins Point to the end of the channel.
Anglers fishing for Garfish, schnapper and sweep will find best catches in the rockpools and rocky areas along the Port Fairy coastline. Mullet and salmon have been found all year round in local surf beaches and in the estuary in the cooler months. Whiting are close to shore in sandy patches adjacent to weed and kelp beds.
